Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ's)
About Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
Q: I would like to become a member
of Alpha Kappa Alpha/What do I need to do?
A: Please review our national homepage and other Soror/Chapter
pages online for general information on our history, programs,
structure and national targets. Please be aware of your campus
Rush activities or other formal Sorority events; after
participating in Rush, you should be given information on the
next steps in the process. Be advised that there are certain
requirements (Grades, community service, campus participation,
high moral standards) that must be met before you acknowledge
your interest publicly. There are no guarantees that you will be
selected, nor can we do all the background work for you. You
alone, should decide whether or not Greek life is for you. Alpha
Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. was founded on distinct principles and
tradition and we do not grant membership randomly.
Q: The chapter at my school is suspended. Can I go to another chapter to seek membership?
A: NO. If your school still has a chapter that has not been completely dissolved by Corporate Headquarters, then you cannot gain membership through another chapter. You will just have to wait until the chapter at your school comes off suspension, transfer to another school completely, or wait until you graduate to seek graduate membership.
Q: It's hard to find out things about Greeks on my campus. How do I found out when programs and Interest meetings will be held?
A: Well, if AKA is what you want, then you will work to get it. Go to the Student Organization or Student Activities office at your University and see if they have a Calendar of Events for different organizations. See, also, if they have a point of contact for your school's AKA chapter and get in contact with that soror. Try to get to know the members on your campus. Be resourceful; that is the best advice. No one is just going to hand you membership into this organization; membership must be earned.
